Bastet was originally a fierce lioness warrior goddess of the sun worshiped throughout most of ancient Egyptian history, but later she was changed into the cat goddess that is familiar today, becoming Bastet. She then was depicted as the daughter and consort of Atum-Ra, with whom she had a son, the lion god Maahes. As protector of Lower Egypt, she was seen as defender of the king, and consequently of the sun god, Ra. Along with other deities such as Hathor, Sekhmet, and Isis, Bastet was associated with the Eye of Ra. She has been depicted as fighting the evil snake named Apep, an enemy of Ra. In addition to her solar connections, sometimes she was called “eye of the moon”. Bastet was also a goddess of pregnancy and childbirth, possibly because of the fertility of the domestic cat. Images of Bastet often were created from alabaster. The goddess was sometimes depicted holding a ceremonial sistrum in one hand and an aegis in the other-the aegis usually resembling a collar or gorget, embellished with a lioness head. Bastet also was depicted as the goddess of protection against contagious diseases and evil spirits.

Ancient Egyptian Style Mummy Head Wooden Pharaoh Tomb Old Vintage Painted

For sale is this awesome Egyptian pharaoh head. Pieces like this were often found in tombs attached to a larger statue representing the respective pharaoh. This one is made of wood and is painted with a thick paint. The paint is very chipped (as seen in photos). It has not been restored. It is pretty large (around 5 inches tall). There is a photo posted of it next to a ruler. The base is unpainted. It looks to have been sawn off a while back. This would be a perfect display piece! I bought this from a private collection. It is a beautiful piece. It has not been authenticated, but I sent some photos into a professional. He told me that the hair style is unlike typical ancient pieces, and the Menes head covering is absent, the depiction of the uraeus is different than what is typically expected as well as the shape of the eyes and the protruding lips. The colors of the paint may also be slightly off. This makes me think that it is likely a modern reproduction of an original ancient piece. It was most likely made for the tourist market in modern times. Again, this is a replica piece and is not a real ancient artifact. It is a very quality piece though!! It is an excellent piece that would look great on display! Dont pass it up! Be sure to check over the details and look at all of the photos so you will know exactly what youll get! Sometimes the photos include a picture of the item next to a ruler so that you can better tell the size of the item. This way we can avoid any accidental sizing issues. My goal is to make you happy!
