This amazing Antique yellow/white gold ring has deep blue sapphires with scallops of old mine cut diamonds surrounding them. This ring definitely has a lot of age to it and was made in the 1800s sometime. It may be from the Early Victorian period with a Georgian era influence. There are three round deep blue sapphires, which have been gemologist verified. Two of them measure approx. 2.5mm and the largest measures approx. There are 16 prong-set diamonds in the white gold surrounding the sapphires. Fourteen are original old mine cut diamonds; two were missing and were replaced with old European cut diamonds. When wearing the ring they do no seem to stand out as different, but under a loupe you can tell the difference. Three recessed teardrop shapes flow down the shoulders of the ring into a solid sturdy shank. It measures a size 7 and could most likely be sized to an extentby an experienced jeweler, if desired. The gold on the face of the ring and bezels tested as 6-8k gold, while the shank tested as 16k gold. There is a partial stamp on the shank that looks like it once said, “18k” or “10k”. This ring has certainly been worked on over the decades and may have varying degrees of gold purity. The bezels have a scalloped edge with some irregularities in design. There is antique patina and age wear to this ring with fine scratches to the gold. Although, very old this stunning piece retains a high degree of its original beauty.
