A GORGEOUS, 1940s, SOLID WOOD, ITALIAN FLORENTINE DISPLAY CURIO CABINET OR VITRINE IN THE LOUIS XV STYLE. 2 pieces, with top display cabinet having glass sides, a glass panel inset in the door and 2 glass shelves. This unit has a VERY ORNATE, BOWED/CURVED AND CARVED TOP CREST. The interior of this unit is finished in gold leaf with a stamped, diamond or harlequin design. The original key is present and this unit does lock. This rests0 on top of the 3 drawer bottom chest and is secured with a wooden peg or dowel which is present on each side of the lower unit with corresponding holes drilled into the display unit bottom. The lower chest has 3 drawers with wooden drawer glides. It is beautifully contoured with large gold leaf patterns on the sides. The thick drawer fronts are slightly curved/bowed. The legs are cabriole style with carved shells above the feet. The cabinet has ornate carved details and stamped patterns under gold leaf. Original finish of AGED ivory with gold leaf/gilded accents. Good condition with some aging to the finish and a few, minor splits in wood. Nothing severe or distracting and nothing that affects the structural integrity of the pieces. There are a couple of very minor chips to the edge of the glass shelves. The drawer pulls are iron/metal with flower pattern. They have an aged patina. Backing is original wood. Cabinet is not marked. Absolutely beautiful and hard to find piece! Measures 68″ tall, 23″ wide and 14 deep.
