The Korean War was in its early stages when an American couple arrived in Asia. They were searching for additions to their collection of Asian art. They ended up in a shop that also showcased smoking jackets and they fell in love with two – one. For each of them. That was 70 years ago. Since then the two smoking jackets have been stored in a glass case for display. The men’s jacket is in immaculate condition. There is a small wrinkle at the back from being hung for so long. This listing if for the men’s jacket only. I’m also listing the women’s smoking jacket separately.

THIS IS A VINTAGE MADE PUMA TWO KNIFE SET. IT IS CALLED A PUMA WAIDBESTECK SUPER SET. BOTH KNIVES HAVE THE CONTROL NUMBERS STAMPED ON THE GUARDS, # 96744 (MADE IN 1969). IS STAMPED PUMA SOLINGEN GERMANY. THIS VINTAGE PUMA SET WAS MADE 53 YEARS AGO AND HAS NEVER BEEN USED, RESHARPENED OR CARRIED. THE ONLY FLAW THAT I SEE IS THE LARGE BLADE AND SMALLER BLADE SHOW SOME SCRATCHES ON THEM FROM TAKING OUT AND PUTTING BACK IN THE SHEATH (SEE PICTURES) A VERY TIGHT FIT. BOTH BLADES ARE 100% FULL. BOTH BLADES ARE STILL SHINY AND VERY SHARP. THE LARGE BLADE MEASURES 8-1/2″ WITH A 2″ FALSE EDGE ON TOP AND IS STAMPED ORIGINAL – PUMA – WAIDBLATT NACH OBERFORSTER FREVERT BEST NO. THE SMALLER KNIFE BLADE IS STAMPED ORIGINAL- PUMA NICKER VOM WAIDBESTECK NACH OBERFORSTMEISTER FREVERT INOX BEST. 35881/2 – GERMANY – HANDABEIT. THE HANDLES ARE VERY NICE, DEEP GROOVED DARK VERY THICK AND BEAUTIFUL STAG WITH A LOT OF CHARACTER, NO CRACKS, CHIPS OR ANY IMPERFECTIONS ON EITHER KNIFE. BOTH KNIVES HAVE BRASS LINERS AND BEAUTIFUL NICKEL SILVER FRONT GUARDS AND REAR POMMELS, ALL TIGHT AND RIGHT WITH SILVER SHIELD (ON LARGE KNIFE) AND LARGE BRATTED PINS. THE LARGE KNIFE MEASURES A LITTLE OVER 13″ OVERALL WITH A 8-1/2″ BLADE. THE SMALLER KNIFE MEASURES 8″ WITH A 4″ BLADE AND FINGER NOTCHES ON THE TOP SPINE FOR SKINNING. THIS PUMA SET IS 53 YEARS OLD AND ANYONE WOULD BE LUCKY TO EVER FIND ANOTHER IN THE CONDITION THIS SET IS IN. THIS SET COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL WOODEN BOX. THE OLD FOAM HAD DISINTEGRATED, BUT IT WAS REPLACED WITH NEW MATERIALS. THIS VINTAGE SET IS VERY NICE AND TIGHT. HERE IS A LITTLE HISTORY BY A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE PUMA COLLECTOR: THE WAIDBLATT BEARING THE NUMBER 3588 HAS BEEN PRODUCED BY PUMA FOR DECADES. THE WAIDBLATT IS ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL AND LARGEST KNIVES MADE BY PUMA. IT WAS CREATED IN THE 50’S WITH THE HELP OF WALTER FREVERT. THE WAIDBESTECK (SUPER SET) CARRIES THE NUMBER 3588 1/2 WHICH LATER WAS CHANGED AGAIN TO THE NUMBER 3587. THE KNIVES COME IN THE VINTAGE STYLE 1970’S FACTORY WOOD PRESENTATION BOX WITH THE PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET. EACH PUMA KNIFE WAS HAND MADE IN SOLINGEN GERMANY AT PUMA WERKS.
