Vintage Bigsby style electric guitar body Birdseye maple Top luthier project
From out of a long closed luthier shop in Western Ma. Today we have found some unfinished guitar bodies. These were started projects that never were completed. This one is a Bigsby replica. Paul Bigsby of the vibrato fame. Built custom electric guitars in the 1940’s and 50’s for country musicians with Merle Travis being the most well known the tp & back are made from solid birdseye maple The body is about 2 1/8 inches thick and the length is 18 3/16″ The width measured across the lower bout is 13 1/2 ” wide. The edges are done pretty nicely Check out the bottom seam (pic 9) , and while the dark glue makes the seams show in the pics They are all tight , and well done. Both the top and back have the binding ledges started , but they’ll need to be cleaned up or rerouted for different binding and purfling The body is chambered and appears to have been put together with resorcinol glue. It is still pretty stout at 6LBS 7 OZ, This could be turned into a very nice vintage Bigsby repro , or some luthier could go all custom guitar on it. This was wrapped up very well , and has survived storage in great condition. This will take some skill to complete. Please look hard at the pics and feel free to chime in about it.. Please check out my other sales of much more out of this shop as well as some stuff from my private stash. Vintage luthier parts, banjo, guitar, mandolin , Some whole vintage instruments as well as a lot of ephemera.
